Does Window Tinting Prevent Breakage?

If you live in the area of Cocoa, Rockledge, Satellite Beach, Indialantic, or Melbourne Beach, then you may have been hit by the freak hailstorm that moved through the area a few months back on March 27, 2019.  If you don’t live in those towns, you still may have heard about it on the news.  It was such a rare weather event for Florida that it did make the news.  This may be because not only did it hail, but the hail was as large as ping-pong balls at times, causing damage to pool enclosure screens, denting cars, and breaking some windows.

This leads to the question at hand.  Does window tint prevent your windows from breaking?  Window tint is available for your vehicle, home, and commercial buildings, all of which have plenty of windows that can break.  Window tint has many benefits.  It does not prevent windows from breaking, but it does prevent them from shattering to pieces in most cases.  In other words, if a tinted window does get broken (from hail or otherwise!), the window tint helps to hold the broken glass together. This prevents it from flying all over, causing more damage and possibly injuring someone.

Tinted Windows Deter Theft

Window film can’t prevent breakage, but it can deter theft. Darker tints can make it difficult for would-be thieves to see inside your car, home, or office so they may be unaware of packages or valuables as they walk by looking for an easy target.  This is definitely a benefit of having tinted windows.

Tinting your windows can offer many benefits.  High-quality window tint reduces the amount of ultraviolet (UV) rays getting into your car, home, or office. This protects the people inside, as well as the interior itself.  UV rays cause damage such as fading on furniture, flooring, and even artwork.  We know UV rays to be very harmful to our skin, at times causing skin cancer, but window tint reduces the risk.

Window Tinting Regulates Temperature

Tinting your windows also helps regulate the temperature which for your home and office will help to lower your utility bill.  It also makes everyone more comfortable when the temperature stays relatively stable and people aren’t getting too hot or too cold.  This makes for happy family members and guests, and happy employees and customers!

But, Glass Still Breaks

So, while window tinting can’t prevent breakage, it definitely helps protect you and the interior of your car, home, or office when breakage occurs.  It also helps protect from the sun’s damaging UV rays and lowers your utility bill.  There isn’t a downside to window tinting with all the great benefits it provides.
